The inspiration behind Nexus Catamarans comes from keen surfer, Mark Paarman. Having surfed many of the more popular surf spots around the world, it became apparent to him that the only way to avoid the increasing crowding of the land-based surf resorts, was to build a platform in the form of a yacht, that could be moved from place to place and thus avoid the crowds and also find the best surf breaks.

During the design and development of this vessel, the interest shown by other like-minded individuals persuaded Mark to extend the idea, by getting more interested parties involved. Initially this caught the attention of keen fisherman, John Henrick, who was drawn in the same way to the idea, except that in his case it is fishing excursions rather than surfing that is the motivation. In 2006, Mark and John joined forces to form Nexus Catamarans, with the intention of building a boat each for themselves, followed by continued production of the same vessel to satisfy the demand which had become apparent. Nexus Catamarans is a builder of high quality, low volume catamarans. The yard is based in the seaside resort town of St Francis Bay, close neighbor of legendary surf spot Jeffrey’s Bay.
